The Contest is open to anyone ages 12 and older.
Each contestant will perform 2 songs (one song may be a cover, but one original song will be adjudicated). Songs performed LIVE on the audition night(s). ONE artist per night will advance to the finals.
4 remaining wildcard slots to be selected from the remaining live performers.
Artists will be adjudicated based on their live performance in the areas of Performance (Stage Presence), Lyrics, Song Composition, Technique (voice/instrument).
Songs must be of original content and no longer than 4.5 minutes.
Song lyrics must be submitted to perform on audition nights.
Each performer can present two songs (one may be a cover song), but only one original song will be adjudicated.
If there is time after all contestants have performed, the night will resume in an Open Mic fashion.
Acts can include from one to five musicians.
Acoustic Drums are NOT permitted at audition venues - hand percussion ONLY.
Backing tracks of any kind are NOT permitted.
Space is limited to 10 Acts for each the live event audition, pre-registration is recommended.
You can register in two ways:
Pre-Registration ($15.00) - Can be made by completing the online Registration Form below. To take advantage of the Pre-Registration Fee, the online registration and payment must be submitted at least two days before the event night being registered for.
Once you have submitted the online registration you will be provided with instructions on submitting the payment via Interac E-Transfer.
LIVE Registration ($20.00) - If space is available you can come to any of the live event auditions, complete the registration form available on site and pay the $20.00 registration fee.
10 artists will perform 2 original songs at the finals.
Three artists will win a prize package chosen by the adjudicators.
The finals event will be held at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country on April 7th, 2018 and will run from 6 - 9pm.
A familiar face in the Okanagan Music Scene since 2005 as a multi-instrumental performer, session musician, and producer /engineer /composer. He records and produces tracks for a large variety of artists in his recording studio (Kyle Haynes Music Studios,) and is compiling his own lengthy back-catalogue of original material, soon to be released. Kyle is Founder and CEO of ‘LEGION Music Group,’ which prides themselves in both finding and providing opportunities for artists and musicians, as well as building and expanding a network of creative individuals and industry professionals.
Kelowna born and raised writer, musician and artist, Lynda Norman, has always known that creativity is a natural part of being. Her vision is to create opportunities for each and every person to experience the benefits of creativity in ways that are meaningful, fulfilling, healing, positive and essential to a thriving community.
In the fall of 2012, Lynda, along with a small group of like-minded creatives, recognized the need in our community for art, culture and heritage to be offered in an inclusive and holistic way. She formed The Association of Artists for Creative Alliance as a not-for-profit society and has continued, as the Executive Director, to focus her energies and talents in promoting arts and culture through the organization. In July 2015, the ACA officially became Kelowna Arts Council.
Lynda is also a business start-up and development consultant, founder and organizer of OUR Coffeehouse, and one of the partners and co-visionaries in Songwriters Stewdio Productions Inc.
A recent arrival to Kelowna, Michelle Sinotte is an artist, a singer, songwriter, and a passionate supporter of arts in the community. Ten years of performing at open mics, and various “sing for food” venues have meant enjoying a lot of original music in Calgary, the Kootenays as well as the Okanagan. Michelle sings as part of a duo, “Seize the Fish”, occasionally as a trio with “Vaguely Obsessed” and has co-written a handful of original tunes. In other capacities Michelle spent ten years as a university librarian and researcher, and holds degrees in painting, marketing and information science.
